Things to do in Louisville aka Derby City
Fueled by a Breakfast of Champions, Served All Day
There is a LOT to see and do in the Louisville area! If you find yourself here the first Saturday in May, put on a fancy hat and sip on a Mint Julep while you enjoy the Derby itself. But don’t fret if you miss the main event. The historic Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby Museum are worth the visit any time of year!
Of course, it’s not all about horses around here. Boxing fans and history buffs alike will enjoy a visit to Muhammed Ali’s childhood home and the Muhammed Ali Center. And you don’t even have to be into baseball to love the interactive Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. Batter up!
And let’s not forget that you’re in bourbon country—Makers Mark, Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve are just a few big whiskies on the Bourbon Trail, but there’s no shortage of smaller, local distilleries, too. You can’t go wrong with the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience or the Stitzel Weller Distillery. We recommend a big breakfast at our place first so all those samples don’t sneak up on you. 😉
Whether you intend to fit in all or some of the classic Louisville activities, your itinerary isn’t complete without a chance to explore historic Louisville. For that, The New York Times recommends the Old Louisville Walking Tour or, if you are so bold, the Old Louisville Ghost Tour.
A few more options:
- Rebecca Ruth Chocolate Tour & Museum
- Bourbon Distillery & Horse Farm Tours
- Private Blue Jeans Tour
- The Big Four Bridge
- Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (Conrad’s Castle)
- Louisville Locomotion Scavenger Hunt
- Germantown Public Beer Walk
And if you’re simply famished from all that exploration, a comfy diner booth and a big helping of comfort food will set you right. Choose from popular menu items like Chicken Pot Pie, Belgian Waffles, Chicken Tenders, Biscuits & Gravy, Burgers, Chicken Salad Croissant, or a double decker Club Sandwich with a golden heap of fresh french fries— all available any time of day. One of each, please!
Louisville Attractions for the Whole Crew
And a Family Restaurant with a Crowd-Pleasing Menu
Don’t let all that talk of bourbon fool you, Kentucky is still a family-oriented area with a range of things for kids and kids-at-heart to enjoy. The Louisville Zoo or Kentucky Kingdom amusement park are good places to start, but the Louisville Mega Cavern is something really special. Visitors can zipline through this massive limestone quarry, complete a ropes course, or take the Mega Tram tour.
The Metro Diner Kids’ Menu will be sure to please your little adventurers – featuring kid-sized versions of our Fried Chicken & Waffles, Chicken Tenders, Belgian Waffles and more. For the bigger appetites in your group, we recommend our Iron City Meat Loaf, a piled-high Breakfast Burger, or our Fried Chicken & Waffles – so popular it has it’s own national holiday!
Planning to grab Metro Diner to-go? Let us pack your picnic with our Family Meals – diner favorites & sides portioned to feed 4. Not only does Metro Diner offer all breakfast, lunch or dinner classics to go via pick-up or delivery, we also cater! Metro Diner catering can help you out with business catering, graduation catering, corporate event catering and even wedding catering! Chicken & Waffles at your party? Don’t mind if we do!
