Things to do in Savannah, the Hostess City
With a Helping of Metro Diner’s Award-Winning Fare
Savannah is exactly what you see when you imagine the South: prewar architecture painted in bright pastels and cobblestone streets lined with towering oak trees veiled in ghostly tendrils of Spanish Moss… so, whatever you do, have the camera ready.
All this beauty is best seen on foot, and with one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the US, you’ll want to take your time here. Start with a stroll through The Savannah Historic District, or you can cruise around on the 60-Minute Guided Segway History Tour of Savannah. As the oldest city in Georgia, Savannah loves its history and its ghosts. For a little of both, take the 90-Minute Savannah History & Haunts Candlelit Walking Ghost Tour.
Once you’ve gotten your bearings and seen a ghost or two, you’ll be ready for more. Here are some of our favorites:
- Bonaventure Cemetery
- Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
- Historic River Street
- Congregation Mickve Israel
- American Prohibition Museum
- Wormsloe Historic Site
- Olde Pink House
- Historic Savannah Theatre
With an itinerary like that, start or end your day by loading up on our delectable Chicken Pot Pie, Burgers, Chicken Tenders, Fish and Chips, or a crisp Chicken Tender Salad. Pro tip: it tends to get warm around here, so wash all that deliciousness down with ice-cold sweet tea or $3.39 mimosas. Cheers!
Fun fact: Savannah is the first “planned” city in the United States, and it was specifically designed to provide citizens with gorgeous natural spaces to gather. So, why not make it a Metro Picnic? Simply order breakfast, lunch, or dinner to go any time of day. Then, head to the lovely Forsythe Park, find one of those shady oak trees we mentioned earlier, and dig into a picnic-perfect delights like our double decker Metro Club sandwich and Belgian Waffles.
Fun Trips for Kids and Kids-at-Heart
And a Family Restaurant for the Whole Crew
Pooler is a quick car ride away from downtown Savannah with more incredible places to take the whole family. When you’re this close to the Atlantic Coast, a trip to the beach is in order and Tybee Island makes for the perfect day trip. Start at the Tybee Island Light Station & Museum and climb the 178 steps to the top of the lighthouse for some amazing views of the area. Then, if you’re not totally spent, rent some bikes and enjoy a ride on the beach and a dip in the Atlantic.
Whew – time to eat after all that! Three words: Fish Fry Friday! If your small fry doesn’t go for fish fry, they’ll surely love something on our Metro Diner Kids’ Menu – like the kid-sized Fried Chicken & Waffles topped with sweet strawberry butter and powdered sugar or ever-popular Macaroni & Cheese!
Did you know you can also order family-style meals to go? Choose from a number of Metro Favorites in family size portions: Fried Chicken & Waffles, Iron City Meatloaf, Fried Chicken, Chicken Tenders, our traditional breakfast platter, and more! In fact, you can order any of our breakfast, lunch or dinner classics to go via pick-up or delivery.
Have something bigger in mind? Metro Diner offers Catering! We can help with business catering, graduation catering, corporate event catering and even wedding catering! Chicken & Waffles for a large group? We can help with that.
