Feb 15, 2018
The chain, which has been featured on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive–Ins and Dives,” specializes in comfort food including fried chicken and waffles, meatloaf and its signature “Yo Hala on the Square,” a stuffed challah bread French toast with a house-made strawberry and blueberry compote. DD&D host Guy Fieri has called the latter a culinary concoction “that is worth coming here for,” according to Metro Diner’s website.
The location at 2069 Plank Road in Greenbrier Shopping Center is the chain’s third in Virginia. It has two on West Broad Street in Richmond, and won Style Weekly’s 2017 Best of Richmond award for “Best Lunch & Best Restaurant For a Meal Under $15.”
The chain got its start in Jacksonville, Fla., where it has won Jacksonville Magazine’s “Best Breakfast 2014–2017” award. The company has more than 40 locations across the United States, and plans to open one in Suffolk soon.
