Family-friendly and laid back, Suffolk is a great place to spend a day with the kids. Start at the delightful Kay’s Acres, where you’ll horseback ride through lush forests with an experienced guide.
Norfolk is home to the world’s largest naval base and some incredible local museums. The Norfolk Chronicles Walking History Tour is a great introduction to the city, and for something extra special, plan a trip to Nauticus, a maritime-themed museum and discovery center located right on the waterfront.
Whatever you do, don’t miss the chance to hike or bike along the gorgeous trails of the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Don’t let the name fool you, the refuge is stunning, peaceful and populated with an impressive array of wildlife. Time it just right, and you can watch the sunset on Lake Drummond and maybe take a selfie with one of the many turtle specimens that call the area home.
