Why did the Chicken Wings cross the road?

To get to Metro Diner, of course!

It’s only fitting that National Chicken Month falls in the the same month football season starts – and Metro Diner is celebrating by adding the most quintessential football-viewing food to the menu: meaty chicken wings! New boneless wings join Metro Diner’s famous fried chicken in the starting line-up of first round Game Day picks; portioned to feed fans, families and local sports teams, on and off the field.

The chicken experts at Metro Diner know a little something – actually, a lot of everything – about cooking chicken. Just ask Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri who featured our Fried Chicken on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on The Food Network. The diners start preparing their fresh, never frozen fried chicken 48 hours prior to serving, brining it for 24 hours and then marinating for an additional 24 hours for maximum flavor and juiciness!

Chicken Wings: The Happy Accident

Did you know chicken wings were invented by accident?! Read on for more information and fun facts on our favorite football food…

American League Leaders  – The average American eats 90 chicken wings a year! The south already beats the rest of the nation for consumption of wings and adding wings at Metro Diner may just bump that average up!

Fortunate Fumble – Buffalo chicken wings were invented by accident in 1964. Chef Teressa Bellissmo did a tasty QB sneak at her local Buffalo bar, when a delivery mix-up forced her to sub in chicken wings for the chicken necks she’d ordered. Chew on that one for a second – if not for that delivery mistake, we might be consuming 1.25 billion chicken necks instead of wings on Super Bowl Sunday.

Buffalo’s Winning Combination – In the early 90’s the Buffalo Bills football team made it to the Super Bowl four times in a row, which put a spotlight on these delectable local snacks. We also have to cheer the city for launching the annual celebration of National Chicken Wing Day each July 29th, declared by the city’s mayor in 1977.

Wing Setting Records – The world record for most wings eaten is 444 wings in 26 minutes, held by Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti (Molly Schuyler came in a close second with 440 wings). Metro Diner guests will go-wing-for-wing with these champs, enjoying double dusted (lightly breaded, then lightly breaded again) then fried and sauced bone-in tender wings and boneless Chicken wings (buttermilk marinated chicken tenders chopped in 4’s and tossed in sauce).

Home on the Ranch – Ranch is the most popular wing dipping sauce, with bleu cheese coming in second. Metro Diner gets top honors in the winners’ circle for its homemade recipes for these tasty sauces.
